Lovin' on Lanvin (oh and smudgy, wine-o lips)

There is no doubt when temps cool, makeup & hair colors get bolder/darker. Our current obsession is the dark lip. We are seeing bold color come back... but just a little cooler and edgier this season. Heck yes!

Our fave is most def the Lanvin lip.

It is so edgy with no edges. The color is strongest and darkest in the center and gets softer as it reaches the lip line. The lip line is blurred and undefined. But so Not messy.

So, how do we rock that?

Take a firm brush like Get a Grip All Over Shadow brush. Find a sheer but deep lip stain. We love starting with a deep berry tone. Fill your lips in, avoiding the edges of the lip line but still follow your shape.

Take a less sheer darker lipstick and dab it onto the center of your lips with the brush.

Then as a final touch, take your makeup sponge (Soho has so many to choose! We love the purple daisy for this!) with a touch of foundation or concealer. Gently dab at the edges of your lips making the ridge slightly light and blending into the color.

Hey, look at you with your cat walk lips!

Looking Luxe for the Holidays

It is that time of year again! We are super stoked on all the parties coming up. And all the glitz and glam we can get. Our fave holiday look requires some golden glowing skin, a bit of a smoky eye and some ultra vampy lips!

For that warm winter glow we are adding a bit of liquid gold to our foundation base. Not just a tad either. Mix one part base with one part liquid gold highlighter. We love Armanis’ Fluid Sheer or Benefit Sunbeam. To apply evenly dab a few drops with your fingertips then blend with a contoured sponge. We obsess over our SOHO Beauty Sponge. BLOT BLOT BLOT!!

As if that isn’t enough, we can’t wait to rock some deep plum lips. To keep it soft and festive dab a little gold gloss over them.

A mellow smoky eye with a gold pencil liner will look amazing at any holiday work party or meeting his parents. Make sure it’s soft and subtle. You can do that by blending any edges with Get a Grip eye shadow brush. Move the brush back and forth like a windshield wipe and before you know, you are blended to perfection.

Our inner holiday goddess awaits!

Beauty Breakdown - Starry Eyes

We are super stoked over one of this fall's biggest beauty trends. Models stalked the catwalks in dreamy  glitter eyes. It’s oh-so starry night and we love it!

So here is the step-by-step to getting magical, dreamy eyes!

Start with a cream eyeshadow or creamy shadow base. We love using a complimentary color to our glitter. Pink cream shadow with silver glitter brings out our inner fairy, for realz though. But if you want to go mysterious and moody try black cream shadow with pewter or deep gold glitter on top.
Make sure you pick one that is wet enough for the glitter to really stick. Apply it with a synthetic brush like our Get a Grip Foundation Brush. This keeps the cream really smooth and even.

Apply pencil liner deep into your lashes. Take a liner brush AKA our Get a Grip EyelinerBrush and smudge the liner a bit to soften it. Then, take your glitter with your index finger and press it gently into your eyelids. Focus on the round center of the eyelid. Try to stay away from the corners. We love MAC’s loose glitter. Its made for your eyes. Craft store glitter is not and can be a danger zone! Edges are sharp and can injure your eyes so do your vision a favor and pick up the real deal. Follow up with your fave mascara.

So now that your feeling magical, get that unicorn you have been eyeing.

Nailed That Bag

It's no secret we're obsessed with nail art. So much so that we get all matchy-matchy with our latest & greatest Fall additions.

1. Claws & Effect Organizer

Leopard plus glitter - our two fave things! So, obviously we had to combine the two to make one of our go-to purse buddies ... the Claws & Effect Organizer. Throw your lipstick, phone, keys & all your other night-out necessities in this sassy little bag & you're sure to have the best night ever!

2. Glowing Wild Wristlet

Bold florals are the ultimate girly statement, right?! Well, not only were we rocking this trend on our nails but, we're taking it to the streets with our must have wristlet. Seriously - every girl needs this little accessory. Use it as a wallet, pretty purse or just to keep your bag neat...you know the bottom of your bag will thank you later!

3. French Twist Valet

So, Fall is all about Black, White & Studs & we couldn't be more happy about it. We totally channeled our inner Parisian meets edgy girl to bring you the French Twist collection. Our Valet is a must have for every traveling fashionista - totally chic but super functional. Lay it out, hang it up or get creative & wear it out...all eyes will be on you & this show stopper.

4. Spotted Round Top Clutch

Spots, polka dots, whatever you want to call them...we're crushing on them hard. On our nails, bags & clothes - you name it, we wear it. So, needless to say this clutch has been the best bag buddy ever. Besides all the obvious uses for this cutie, we're loving keeping our nail polishes in here. Throw your fave colors in plus all your mani supplies for touch ups on the run!

Beauty Breakdown: Bold Color Blocking Liner

If there is one thing you can say about SOHO girls, it’s that we heart color. And this fall, bold color blocking eyeliner is going a step further! We love the winged cat eye liner done in bright color blocking hues. Here is how to get the look, and keep it fresh all day or night.

1.     Start by applying an eye shadow base to your whole lid. Use a smooth synthetic brush like Get a Grip foundation brush. This keeps the base smooth so that your colors apply evenly.

2.     Apply a pastel shadow all over you lid. You cant go wrong with Get a Grip shadow brush. Its soft bristles feel oh so good on your delicate eyelid and apply powder shadow super smooth.

3.     Take a sharpened colored pencil of your favorite bold color. We are really loving yellow right now! Start to line from the inside out. Gradually make the line thicker as you get to the outside corners of your eyes. Do both eyes. Make sure the thickness is even and where you want it.

4.     Look in the mirror and decide how long you would like you liner to extend. Draw a tiny dot in that place on each eye checking to make sure they are even. Draw a straight line from the dot to the top of your eye lined lid, not the corner. Repeat on other eye. Draw another line from the dot downward to the corner. You should have a triangle on each eye. Fill it in with pencil. Smooth over any unevenness. Correct any areas you may need to.

5.     Take a matching eye shadow or cake liner. Add a small amount of liner sealer to make a paste. Using a brush like Get a Grip liner brush, line over the pencil. Let dry completely. Carefully apply mascara.

Can’t wait to see your bright bold liner!  What’s your favorite color?

Cut the Clutter: Pt.1

With the holidays almost upon us, we at SOHO Beauty are drooling over all the new fall collections from our fave makeup lines. All we want to do is go SHOPPING! But, when we look at all our previous makeup hauls, we know we have got to get that in order before we bring in even more. How else would we make room for all the cool new colors we want? So, here is our pre-holiday clean up and clean out!

First, we pulled all our makeup out of everywhere we have stashed it.  O-M-G. There was a lot! We keep it neat for sure but, when you get it all and lay it out….Woah. And, if you are not quite the neat freaks we love to be here at SOHO Beauty, you may be doing a little more than laying it out. Here are a couple steps for cleaning up and clearing out.

Once your makeup is all gathered in one place it needs to get organized. Separate all your shadows, lip pencils, glosses, blush, etc into individual groups.  Focusing on one group at a time, pull out the stuff that is in new/pristine condition. If you love the packaging and you just bought it, set it aside. Do that for each group. When you have that stuff all together we suggest you store it in a SOHOBeauty Case. Hey! Kinda feels like you just went shopping already, right?

The next step will be either painful or cathartic. Pick a group like lipsticks. Open them all and line them up. Divide by color; pink, red, nude etc. If you have too many of one color, decide if it’s really worth keeping 8 red lipsticks that are all pretty much the same shade. Come on… you know the answer. Also check how they smell. If you can remember which ones you have had the longest or they are starting to get funky- chuck ‘em! Do this for all your glosses, cream shadows, foundations, concealers. Anything creamy. The cream stuff spoils. And ew, you know you don’t want to wear spoiled makeup.

Good luck, & happy cleaning! OH, and watch this space part two of Cut the Clutter!
